Winter might just be my new favorite season for couple sessions, and J and K’s shoot is the perfect example of why! The serene beauty of the snow-covered landscape, the cozy vibes of winter fashion, and the golden glow of a sunset make for incredibly romantic time. Plus, there’s something extra special about braving the cold together.

From the second we started talking about this session with J and K I knew this was going to be something extra special! Not only were we set to enjoy the stunning winter scenery, but we also had the unique opportunity to photograph them taking part in a special holiday tradition—cutting down their Christmas tree! Yes, you can get a permit to do this each year in the Santa Fe National Forest, and it’s an absolute must-try for anyone looking to add a little adventure and tradition to their holiday season in New Mexico!

J and K were absolutely adorable from the start. We began by hiking across a wide field that leads to the forest, on the hunt for their perfect Christmas tree. Between laughter, falling in snow holes, and K’s impeccable tree-judging skills, they eventually spotted the one. With J’s trusty saw in hand, they worked together to bring their tree home.

After securing their tree, it was time to celebrate! They set up the back of J’s truck with their tree and broke out a thermos of hot chocolate. Watching the two of them laugh and sip their drinks as the sun dipped behind the mountains was such a heartwarming sight. You could tell how much they love spending time together and embracing life’s little adventures.

This session was a reminder of how special winter in New Mexico can be. From the crisp mountain air to the breathtaking sunsets, there’s truly nothing like it.
