If you’re dreaming up a Denver engagement session that feels vibrant, personal, and effortlessly you, M and J’s story is the perfect inspiration. From sun-soaked city streets to meaningful locations woven into their relationship, their session in Denver captured everything that makes documenting love in an urban setting so special.
Even more meaningful, I’ve since had the honor of photographing their wedding this past fall. Looking back on their engagement photos now, knowing how their day unfolded, makes this time even more full circle.

Every engagement session has a story behind it, and M and J’s is one of my favorites. They met while playing cup-in-hand kickball, and what started as friendly competition quickly turned into something more.
Their relationship has always been rooted in connection, adventure, and not taking life too seriously. That energy translated so naturally into their photos, which is exactly what I encourage for every couple I work with.
Beyond their Denver engagement session, M and J are the kind of couple who prioritize experiences. One of their favorite memories together is exploring Vieques, Puerto Rico by golf cart, finding hidden beaches, and soaking in the island’s beauty.
Whether it’s traveling, hiking, camping, or trying new restaurants, they’ve built a relationship around curiosity and shared adventure. That sense of movement is something I always aim to reflect in my work.
We kicked off M and J’s Denver engagement session at Lady Jane, one of their favorite local spots. Starting here set the tone for the entire session, relaxed, familiar, and completely true to who they are.
There’s something about beginning a session in a space that already holds memories. Whether it’s your go-to bar, coffee shop, or neighborhood hangout, it allows you to ease in naturally. Instead of feeling posed, you’re simply existing together, grabbing a drink, laughing, and settling into the moment. For M and J, this part of their Denver engagement session felt effortless. It reflected their everyday connection, the kind built on shared routines and time spent just being together.

From there, we made our way to Union Station, where the energy of the city really came to life. This part of their Denver engagement session brought in movement, architecture, and a deeper layer of meaning tied to their story.
Union Station wasn’t just a beautiful backdrop; it’s also woven into one of the most important moments of their relationship. On the way to dinner, J surprised M by proposing on a nearby bridge that led to the park where they first met, playing kickball.
Visually, this portion of the session added contrast. Bright light met the city’s structure, and quiet in-between moments blended with the buzz of downtown. It’s what makes a Denver engagement session feel dynamic, layered, and personal.

When I photographed their Denver engagement session, their wedding was still ahead. Now, having documented their wedding this past fall, I can confidently say their day was just as intentional, joyful, and full of life as I imagined. You can explore more from their wedding day here.
There’s something really special about working with couples across multiple chapters like this. Engagement sessions become more than just photos; they are the beginning of a story I get to continue telling.
